I'm trying to gather all good lenses for Canon camera.

    Wide:
Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM - {review: the-digital-picture.com, luminous-landscape.com} $700 Nothing beats this lens. Only thing if wanna go for Wwwwiiiiddddeeeeee.
Tamron 10-24mm 1:3.5-4.5 -{review: dpreview} well save $200 from Canon, it might be a good alternative

    Tele:
    Canon EF 70-300mm IS - $650
    Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS - $260 much cheaper alternative =)

    Normal:
    Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 - $99
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM -- $350 -- much better, but triple the price. [though it's much affordable comparing to $1500 for f/1.2L]

Macro: honestly I still don't get why it differs from Tele since Tele can zoom to get closer anyway?
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Auto Focus Lens -- $500

    Damn! DSLR is expensive.

I think I made the decision to get Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS + Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 first. So I will end up paying around $360 for the first try! see if my skill is good enough to get the best out of those or not. It should be better than throwing $350 on one 50mm f/1.4 alone and I can get nothing out of damn good lens. :-)

You know that I like your idea, do you? ;P The thing is we'll never know how good the more expensive one is if we never try the cheaper one, right? You're the best ever!! You got tons of my great shots (because you took tons-tons-tons of photos.) 55555 I mean it, you're excellent.

You are telling me that 0.0000...0001{tons/(tons-tons-tons)} success rate is the best... What a compliment!!

Just went and tried both lenses [Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS + Canon EF 50mm f/1.8] I got a conclusion that the more expensive you pay, the better you will get. That made me sad :'( e.g. holding D90, shooting for a bit to get used to, the result I got is superb already, while holding XSi seemed to be great, but not near as good as D90 most of the time. I don't know how 50D will perform though.

Love 50mm f/1.4 haha, but if I decide to buy prime lens, 50mm f/1.8 probably is the one.

    However, I have choices again.
    Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM - $400
+ Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM Autofocus Lens - $600 (sacrifice IS here for half the price)

Or swapping 28-135 with walkaround superb lens like Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM - $1100 when I get richer!

An alternative for 70-200mm f/4.0L is sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 for $799. About half the price of 70-200mm f/2.8L

Interesting, but not so soon -.-
